We have the capability to custom design lipid excipients to enhance drug absorption and improve efficacy of the active. We have worked extensively with glycerol monocaprylate (C8), having produced product with 40, 60, 90, and +98 percent monoglyceride. This product has been used as a drug solubilizer and shows promise as a skin penetrant enhancer. Purified glycerol monocaprate (C10), glycerol monopelargonate (C9), and various mixtures have also been prepared. Novel excipients could be produced using branched fatty acids esterified to glycerol, propylene glycol, or various polyglycerols. Such products could be tailored to have improved characteristics such as reduced melting point while in most cases still be prepared from GRAS materials.
